Illegal gambling and advertising
Why should you choose licensed websites?
If you gamble with an operator licensed in Denmark, the games must be offered in a fair, responsible, and transparent manner and in accordance with Danish legislation.
You are also guaranteed that any potential winnings are already taxed when you play with a Danish‑licensed operator.

When is gambling offered illegally?
Gambling is considered to be offered illegally if it is provided without a licence from the Danish Gambling Authority and the operator targets the Danish market.
A gambling service is considered to be offered in Denmark if:
- the website is in Danish
- the website offers Danish customer support
- you can choose to pay in Danish currency
- you can use payment methods that normally only work in Denmark, such as Dankort
- the registration form is pre‑filled with Denmark or +45
- you can use Steam or Roblox to log in
- the operator targets its marketing towards Denmark
The Danish Gambling Authority may also determine that gambling is offered in Denmark if the games on a website target Danish players in other ways. To assess this, we review each website individually. The assessment focuses on whether the operator’s selection of games is likely to make the site more attractive to Danish players.
Illegal advertising
Gambling operators without a Danish licence are not permitted to advertise their gambling services. All advertising and sponsorships for gambling or gambling operators without a licence are prohibited. Media outlets — such as social media platforms, newspapers, radio and TV stations, and magazines — may therefore not contain advertisements for unlicensed gambling operators.
Streaming illegal gambling
It is illegal for streamers to provide access to or refer viewers to a gambling site that does not hold a Danish licence. This applies only if the gambling site being promoted targets the Danish market.
If a streamer receives payment, commission, or other financial benefits for referring to or playing on a website, this is generally considered advertising. Advertising for a gambling site without a licence from the Danish Gambling Authority is illegal — regardless of whether the site targets Denmark.
