The Gambling Market in Numbers 2025: Online Casino Becomes Danes’ Preferred Form of Gambling for the First Time
Online gambling is booming
The report shows, among other things, that online casino—with a total gross gaming revenue (GGR) of DKK 4,309 million—was the largest gambling sector in the Danish market in 2025. Right behind it were monopoly lotteries such as Lotto, class lotteries, and scratch cards, with a GGR of DKK 3,492 million.
This is the first year that online casino ranks number one on the list of Danes’ preferred gambling sectors. Since the partial liberalisation of the gambling market in 2012, monopoly lotteries have otherwise held the top spot.
The figures from 2025 also show a continued increase in the share of gambling taking place online. In 2025, 73% of all gambling occurred on computers or mobile devices. By comparison, the share was 70% in 2024.
New gambling sector in this year’s report
On 1 January 2025, land-based bingo was liberalised in the Danish market, and therefore The Gambling Market in Numbers includes data for this sector for the first time.
Changed regulation method
In The Gambling Market in Numbers 2025, gross gaming revenue is adjusted according to the development in Denmark’s gross domestic product (GDP), as stated in the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Economic Review (December 2025), at 2026 levels. This means the Danish Gambling Authority now follows the same regulation method as the rest of the Ministry of Taxation and Economic Growth. The new method means that the figures in this year’s report may differ from those in previous reports.
